Mobile devices will allow an instruction booklet to become easier to understand, and they can also use visual demonstrations, whereas in a booklet you get what you see. I once read in another English class, that because people are illiterate, and are not reading the seat-belt instructions correctly, more child fatality’s has been occurring, so installing manuals and instructions inside of mobile devices may help the problem because the manual, or instructions can become visual on a mobile device, hence solving the problem of an illiterate person installing anything correctly.
Mobiles & Technical Writing, in the Future ! February 1, 2009
Mobiles will change the definition of technical writing in the future. When I am walking down the street, on the train, or even in the lunch room at school all I see is students instant messaging or texting. I would like to see Jr high and high school students in the New York City school systems get (SMSRS) Short Messaging Service Response System, (“Researchers developed a way to use any SIM-enabled mobile device as a personal response system. Students can respond to open-ended or multiple choice questions and their answers can be immediately tabulated, graphed and displayed to the class via a website.” Horizon Report pg.10) for their mobile devices, I think it will improve their interests in education. Teens, and pre-teens love to use their mobile devices, so taking exams from them, would definitely give young students something to get excited about, and to look forward to, we can introduce to them through mobile devices other educational outlets, that they would have not been otherwise interested in. The horizon report mentioned, that children who are learning in the school systems now, are not the same children, who sat in these places 20 and 30 years ago, and therefore they need new innovative ways to learn, not the methods used so long ago, that are now outdated. Why not try using mobile devices to teach ? I believe, that incorporating mobile devices into the school system will improve the graduate rate, and yes change technical writing once again. Another definition will be added, to the already extended list of definitions of technical writing. You see, the list of definitions stay the same, only more are added on continuously.
What is Technical writing? January 28, 2009
According to Dennis G. Jerz (www.jerzsetonhill.edu/resources/FAQ/TW.htm) Technical writing is the presentation of information that helps the reader solve a particular problem. Wikipedia.com says, that technical writing is a form of technical communication, a style of formal writing, Technical writers explain complex ideas to technical and nontechnical audiences, and Technical writers also go under such titles that include pharases like, information development, technical documentation, or technical publications. Finally micron.com believe that technical writing conveys specific information about a technical subject to a specific audiance for a specific purpose.
I think that technical writing is all of the above, the presentation of information, a style of formal writing, and it conveys specific information about a technical subject to a specific audience for a specific purpose. Looking up the definition of technical writing caused me to have an epiphany, I realized, that technical writing is very important because to live, is to interact with others through some means of communication at some point in time, and good technical writing skills matter very much.
