According to Dennis G. Jerz (www.jerzsetonhill.edu/resources/FAQ/TW.htm) Technical writing is the presentation of information that helps the reader solve a particular problem. Wikipedia.com says, that technical writing is a form of technical communication, a style of formal writing, Technical writers explain complex ideas to technical and nontechnical audiences, and Technical writers also go under such titles that include pharases like, information development, technical documentation, or technical publications. Finally micron.com believe that technical writing conveys specific information about a technical subject to a specific audiance for a specific purpose.
I think that technical writing is all of the above, the presentation of information, a style of formal writing, and it conveys specific information about a technical subject to a specific audience for a specific purpose. Looking up the definition of technical writing caused me to have an epiphany, I realized, that technical writing is very important because to live, is to interact with others through some means of communication at some point in time, and good technical writing skills matter very much.
